Chris Moreno is an illustrator and is well known for his many comics. He has done work for; Marvel, Boom ! Studios, Zenescope Entertainment, Image Comics and Silent Devil comics. Some of his works are Grimm Fairy Tales, Dracula vs. King Arthur, Toy Story and those are just a few among many others. Chris and I are friends online and we were talking about his “New” project Zombie Dickheads. He showed me the art work and I just had to cover the story. What I love about Chris is that his work is like a chameleon. He can create characters on just about anything. There is nothing that he can’t create. I am not only a friend of his but I am a huge fan of his work! So get your mind in that Zombie mode and get ready to bite into this delicious interview with the man himself Chris Moreno.
I.mag: Are you writing the story?
C.M: Yeah, I’m doing the whole shebang– art and story.
I.mag: Who are the characters?
C.M: The four Zombie Dickheads, from left to right, are Dennis, Josh, Colton, and Lisa.
I.mag: What can you tell me about each character?
C.M: Dennis is the de facto leader of the Dickheads. He’s prissy, anal retentive, always cleaning and disinfecting things. He’s also the only one of the four who likes to wear clean, new clothes, but his wounds always end up staining them. Josh is a lazy, lazy dude. He’s also a wiseass, and spends a lot of time undermining Dennis’ authority. He’d probably be a better leader for the group, if you could get him off the couch. Colton’s a real snob. When he was alive, he was the guy who only watched really obscure foreign films or listened to bands nobody’s ever heard of, abandoning them when they sold out and became too “mainstream”. He rejects society’s conventions of what a zombie should be. He and Josh butt heads a lot, mainly because they both have the hots for Lisa.
I.mag: Tell me more about Lisa.
C.M: Lisa was a party girl who used to have a lot of friends before the zombies came. Now the only crowd she finds herself a part of are these guys. I’m sure if there were cooler people to hang around, she’d be off with them. They’re not all bad. Josh kind of makes her laugh. She’s really self-conscious about her looks, so she’s always trying to wear clothes that hide her wounds.
I.mag: Would you say they are outcasts?
C.M: They’re pretty much the outcasts among outcasts. Humans hate and fear them. Zombies bore the crap out of them. All they’ve really got are each other.
I.mag: What can the reader find in this storyline?
C.M: It’s pretty much played straight for laughs. We’ve got enough drama-filled, scary stories about zombies out there. This is definitely the alternative. I mean, a name like “Zombie Dickheads” should hopefully clue the audience in that this is something different.
I.mag: What can you tell me about the Rednecks and their personalities?
C.M: The rednecks are pretty much the zombies in this, the ones our zombie heroes are on the run from. They’re wild-eyed gun nuts, kind of like the guys at the end of the original Night of the Living Dead. For them, killing zombies has almost become part of their culture. Fellas hop in their pickups with their buddies, a sixer, and their rifles and just have a good ol’ time. The ones we meet in this first story are a little on the Yosemite Sam/Elmer Fudd side– the shoot first, ask questions type. Of course, this ends up biting them in the ass when they run into the Dickheads.
I.mag: Does this story have a main character and who is he or she?
C.M: This story and all the other stories are all about the Dickheads!
