Avatar/iPhone App
by Melanie C. Jordan
Avatar, what a cool ass game, I’ll tell you this much for an iPhone game it was one of the best action games I have played. This game was easy to navigate and the graphics were outstanding. The game takes place before the movie so it has its own story.
Like any other game it starts off easy and gets more challenging with each chapter you progress too. You can also select the difficulty of the game; easy, medium or hard. This game is played like the Assassin Creed App. There is a virtual joy stick and buttons for jumping, running and attacking. When in combat you rapidly press the button for combinations. For special attacks there is a button in the upper left corner that you can press.
You start off in training. You learn how to jump, slide, and kneel, all that fun stuff that prepares you for Pandora’s world. Just like the movie your training is done on the human premises with all their technology that surrounds you.
Once you pass your training period which doesn’t take long. You are taken off in a helicopter to Pandora. You find yourself in combat with creatures on land, water and sky. While in combat you press the single button attacks to defeat the creatures. However, what I found frustrating was the lagging in certain areas of the game. There were times I would be in combat with a creature and I would keep clicking the single button because of the lag the creature would get the upper hand leaving me to die. This made me have to start all over again to my check point.
My favorite chapter is chapter eight; you ride an Ikran and fly around the jungle. Then on chapter six you get little
missions around the Na’vi village. If you are looking for adventure this game has it! You find yourself climbing mountains that over sees a waterfall; I must say the waterfall is beautiful. I actually had my Avatar stand there for a while so I may view the scenery.
Another fun thing about this game was sliding down the vines. Wow! I felt as if I was really sliding. As you are sliding there are obstacles that you have to avoid so, you bend down and slide at the same time. You have to see it for yourself it Kicks ass!
During battles, text pops up on your screen guiding you on what you need to do next and how to battle certain creatures. This truly helps throughout the game. You can also press the two multi function buttons on the bottom right of the screen. These buttons change context on what’s happening in the game.
While playing this game I did find the music getting on my nerves. At one point I had to mute the sound. With that said, I do feel the game was made well and even if you’re not a fan of the movie you will love the game!
